Flexstone™ Paver
Short Form Application Specification

PART 1-GENERAL

1.01 Description: Provide all materials, manuals and details, labor and equipment to properly install FlexStone pavers as supplied by Kamway Corp., 14-40 110th Street, College Point, NY 11356. (718) 461-7500.

1.02 Submittals: Only FlexStone submittals provided by Kamway Corp. or authorized applicator will be acceptable and will include product specifications and literature, installation details and color pallet.

1.03 Quality Assurance:

• All applicators of FlexStone systems must be approved by Kamway Corp.;
• Acceptable substrates for FlexStone installation include, but are not limited to, concrete, asphalt, single-ply EPDM and BUR and modified bitumen roofing systems, properly prepared compacted aggregate bases and approved "green" roof deck systems. The Kamway authorized installer must verify that all proposed substrates meet the requirements for FlexStone installation;
• All product variations from published FlexStone specifications must be reported to Kamway Corp. before any installation work is begun;
• All issues of fit and finish are the responsibility of the installer;
• Contact Kamway Corp. for product warranty details.

1.04 Installation Systems: FlexStone pavers may be installed by a number of different methods depending upon substrate, service environment, prevailing weather conditions and other considerations. Choice of the installation systems listed below must be verified and approved by Kamway Corp. before installation is begun. Details of all these systems and system recommendations may be obtained by contacting Kamway Corp.

• FlexStone pavers may be joined together by means of a mechanical doweling system or by employing and integral edge engagement systems;
• FlexStone pavers may be fully adhered to hard substrates such as asphalt and concrete with a single-component polyurethane-base adhesive as supplied by Kamway Corp. Adhered systems must not be installed at ambient temperatures of less than 35ºF (2ºC) and must not fall below this temperature for at least 72 hours after installation to assure proper cure (see attached Sikaflex adhesive specification). Protect adhered FlexStone installations from rain for a minimum of four hours after adhesive application using plastic sheeting.
• FlexStone pavers may in certain service environments be loose laid or laid with perimeter containment alone.

1.05 Storage and Handling: During all stages of the installation process, FlexStone pavers and installation accessories must be protected from the weather and vandalism. Adhesives, if utilized, must be stored at temperatures above 40ºF (4°C). All materials and tools must be handled utilizing proper protective clothing and eye protection. All containers, excess material and scrap must be disposed of in accordance with environmental regulations.

PART 2-MATERIALS

2.01 General: All FlexStone pavers and accessories must be obtained from Kamway Corp. or its authorized applicators and agents. Substitutions will not be permitted without written authorization of Kamway Corp.

2.02 Materials: FlexStone pavers and accessories shall be provided as detailed in the attached product specification without exception or substitution.

PART3-EXECUTION

3.01 Inspection: Prior to beginning any installation work, the authorized installer will be responsible for evaluation of the substrate and verification that site conditions, including but not limited to ambient temperature, are compliant with contract documents and FlexStone specifications and other requirements and conditions. If variations or non-conformities exist, no installation work be performed until discrepancies and resolved by the owner or general contractor. All substrates must have a minimum slope of 1/8" per 12" to promote positive drainage.

3.02 Installation: Installation of FlexStone pavers including preparation and evaluation of the substrate, must be accomplished in accordance with installation instructions and manuals as supplied by Kamway Corp.

3.03 Cleanup: Adhesive spills occurring during adhered installations should be cleaned immediately with mineral spirits or acetone before the adhesive cures. Wear solvent-safe rubber gloves and provide adequate ventilation when using solvents.

3.04 General Precautions:

• Wear solvent-safe long cuff rubber gloves and proper protective clothing and eye protection when handling Sikaflex adhesive;
• Remove uncured adhesive from skin immediately and wash affected area with soap and water;
• Follow all other safety precautions printed on container labels. Refer to MSDS sheets available from Kamway Corp.
